Good afternoon,

There have been a lot of questions about the $800K deficit reduction in the BOLD Public School District budget. This news was revealed in a finance committee meeting last month and made famous in the local papers covering the minutes of the last board meeting, where that news was first revealed to the public.

I will go into more detail in an upcoming Spotlight in The Register, and I will provide a more detailed explanation in my report at the next BOLD board meeting on January 26th.

In this week's BOLD update, I will say that the budget turnaround can be attributed to 7 main areas: 1) underestimated revenue and overestimated costs 2) higher enrollment that was budgeted for 3) transportation efficiency development 4) discovery of unspent funds 5) reduction of staff 6) reduction in spending 7) the movement of money from restricted budget lines to unrestricted.

I will expound on these areas in subsequent communications, but I want to also say that most of the deficit reduction was put in motion before my arrival at BOLD; so the credit goes to the board, our new business manager, the staff who have reduced spending and have taken on heavier loads, and the community that has been supporting BOLD public schools through all of it.

Construction Update

There has been a lot happening in Area E (the East side of the building). Beams, framing, masonry walls, joists, and a roof are all going up over there. This area will look a lot different by the end of the month.

Area D (the Northwest side) is behind schedule, so there will be ground thawing machines over there, more demo, and possibly more abatement. Nexus is pushing hard on doubling crews and extending work hours to make up some time over there.

Construction updates can also be seen on this link: Construction Updates.

Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of the dedicated work we are doing at BOLD Public Schools.

Have a good weekend.
