Bright and early on Saturday, May 2nd, members of the BOLD High School National Honor Society traded sleeping in for garbage bags, hi-vis vests, and gloves as we tackled our 3-mile stretch of Hwy 7 near Lake Lillian for Adopt-A-Highway! Our NHS chapter has proudly cared for this section since 1990, and while picking up trash may not sound like the ultimate Saturday morning activity for high school students, our members always find ways to make it memorable. From teamwork and laughs to discovering some truly bizarre roadside treasures, it’s become a tradition full of fun and connection. This spring cleanup resulted in about 16 bags of trash collected which is helping keep our community clean, one mile at a time! #BOLDPride #NationalHonorSociety #AdoptAHighway #CommunityStrong

Greetings BOLD Community,
I don't have a lot of details to share this week, but I can answer some questions that have been burning in the minds of some.
Are there any penalties for delays built into our contract with Nexus?
The answer is no. However, Nexus is doing what they can to get this project done as quickly as possible.
What is the status of the gym floor in Bird Island?
According to the flooring company, FLR, it looks like it may be ok, but we are going to wait until the end of the summer to make that final determination. We want to see how the floor handles summer humidity.
If anyone would like to discuss anything in relation to the project, where we are, and why, please feel free to reach out.
Meanwhile, tonight is the last night to check out "Leaving Iowa!
Take care everyone,
Tim

Elementary Yearbooks have been distributed! If you missed out on
ordering one and would like one, we have a limited amount of extras.
These will be on a first come first serve basis. The cost is $16.
We are so grateful to the area businesses who have spoiled our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week with treats! Your generosity and support mean so much and help make our staff feel valued. Thank you for taking such great care of our educators—we appreciate you!

Retirement Party for Gayle Grimm ECSE Teacher - 19 years of service.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
If you are feeling thankful for a positive impact a teacher has had on your life, this is a great week to show that appreciation.
In other news, the board approved May 21st as a non-instructional day, so the last day of school is now May 20th. There will still be an early release at 1 pm.
Please reach out with any questions you may have about this.

Greetings BOLD Community,
Thank you to the amazing turnout for the spring music performance in the big gym yesterday. Seeing that kind of community support was inspiring. It won't be long now, and we will be able to use the new main entrance to get in that gym.
We will find out Tuesday what the ultimate verdict is on the Bird Island gym floor. Servpro is still working to get everything completely dry.
We did find out that we will NOT need to replace any walls in the elementary classrooms. The experts from IEA have determined that once we fix the condensate tank for the boilers, the steam leaks will no longer occur.
The custodians have been and will continue to do extra duty, painting, and waxing floors, to help get the interior of the building looking good and maintained.
Take care everyone,
Tim

The NHS sponsored Blood Drive will be in the SMALL GYM tomorrow, Monday, April 27th. Please enter the parking lot off of 7th Street and drive through the parking lot traveling south like you are going to the football field. A few spots will be saved for donors next to the building by the Southeast entrance near the District Office and AD trailers.

Prom Grand March is tonight at 5:00 PM. This is a special event, and we hope to see you there! If you can't be there in person, we will be livestreaming this event on the BOLD 2534 Facebook page. This is our previous page, and it currently works best for livestreaming events. We'll be live a few minutes before the event begins. Fingers crossed that the rain holds off for the march.
A reminder:
To help things run smoothly, we ask that community members please do not park in the main parking lot during the event. This space will be reserved for prom attendees, as well as for the fire department to pull their vehicles after the drive-up.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep everything safe and organized. Thank you for supporting our students and making this a great event!

The building flooded Monday when the demo crew hit a sprinkler line that was not capped off. Thanks to the heroic efforts of said demo crew and several BOLD staff members, we got the water dried up relatively quickly. However, water did get on the gym floor in the big gym. Service Pro has been out there all week making sure that the gym floor gets completely dry, underneath as well. On Monday, FLR (the flooring company) will be out there to determine if any damage was done to the floor. Nexus has taken full responsibility for this accident. I will give another update on this at the school board meeting Monday.
Take care everyone,
Tim

Our BOLD students had an incredible showing at the Culinary Skills Challenge at SMSU!
The BBQ team delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 144 out of 150 points, while our culinary team brought home multiple first-place finishes—including an Asian-themed cooking competition. Students also showcased their creativity in events like cupcake decorating and hands-on cooking challenges.
Beyond the competition, students took part in engaging sessions, learning new skills like making bacon breakfast sandwiches and exploring the culinary field.
To top it all off, several BOLD students earned first place honors and were awarded $2,000 scholarships to SMSU.
We are proud of the hard work, talent, and dedication these students demonstrated!
