Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
If you are feeling thankful for a positive impact a teacher has had on your life, this is a great week to show that appreciation.
In other news, the board approved May 21st as a non-instructional day, so the last day of school is now May 20th. There will still be an early release at 1 pm.
Please reach out with any questions you may have about this.

Greetings BOLD Community,
Thank you to the amazing turnout for the spring music performance in the big gym yesterday. Seeing that kind of community support was inspiring. It won't be long now, and we will be able to use the new main entrance to get in that gym.
We will find out Tuesday what the ultimate verdict is on the Bird Island gym floor. Servpro is still working to get everything completely dry.
We did find out that we will NOT need to replace any walls in the elementary classrooms. The experts from IEA have determined that once we fix the condensate tank for the boilers, the steam leaks will no longer occur.
The custodians have been and will continue to do extra duty, painting, and waxing floors, to help get the interior of the building looking good and maintained.
Take care everyone,
Tim

The NHS sponsored Blood Drive will be in the SMALL GYM tomorrow, Monday, April 27th. Please enter the parking lot off of 7th Street and drive through the parking lot traveling south like you are going to the football field. A few spots will be saved for donors next to the building by the Southeast entrance near the District Office and AD trailers.

Prom Grand March is tonight at 5:00 PM. This is a special event, and we hope to see you there! If you can't be there in person, we will be livestreaming this event on the BOLD 2534 Facebook page. This is our previous page, and it currently works best for livestreaming events. We'll be live a few minutes before the event begins. Fingers crossed that the rain holds off for the march.
A reminder:
To help things run smoothly, we ask that community members please do not park in the main parking lot during the event. This space will be reserved for prom attendees, as well as for the fire department to pull their vehicles after the drive-up.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep everything safe and organized. Thank you for supporting our students and making this a great event!

The building flooded Monday when the demo crew hit a sprinkler line that was not capped off. Thanks to the heroic efforts of said demo crew and several BOLD staff members, we got the water dried up relatively quickly. However, water did get on the gym floor in the big gym. Service Pro has been out there all week making sure that the gym floor gets completely dry, underneath as well. On Monday, FLR (the flooring company) will be out there to determine if any damage was done to the floor. Nexus has taken full responsibility for this accident. I will give another update on this at the school board meeting Monday.
Take care everyone,
Tim

Our BOLD students had an incredible showing at the Culinary Skills Challenge at SMSU!
The BBQ team delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 144 out of 150 points, while our culinary team brought home multiple first-place finishes—including an Asian-themed cooking competition. Students also showcased their creativity in events like cupcake decorating and hands-on cooking challenges.
Beyond the competition, students took part in engaging sessions, learning new skills like making bacon breakfast sandwiches and exploring the culinary field.
To top it all off, several BOLD students earned first place honors and were awarded $2,000 scholarships to SMSU.
We are proud of the hard work, talent, and dedication these students demonstrated!

BOLD 8th-grade student Neil Kadlec was the winner of the Southwest West Central Cooperative and Southwest Minnesota State University’s 22nd Annual Creating Spaces Writing Contest! The awards ceremony was held on April 12, 2026, at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
Neil got the idea for his story last summer and said he originally wrote the story for fun. When he found out about the contest, he decided to enter his story. Neil was notified by mail that he was a finalist and found out he was the winner at the awards ceremony. Neil took home the first-place honors for the 8th-grade fiction category.
Neil, BOLD School staff are so proud of you! Congratulations! You are a fabulous representative of our district. Keep writing!

On April 9, the BOLD Senior High Band had Dr. John Ginocchio(Director of Bands at SMSU) come out and evaluate the band on their performance of two selections. This took the place of the Large Group Contest at Lakeview HS that was cancelled due to winter weather. Following their performance, Dr. Ginocchio took some time to work with them on some things that we could improve on. The band earned a Superior rating for their outstanding work! Way to go Band!

We are having inspectors from IEA out next week to look at some Elementary Classrooms and check behind the walls to make sure there is no mold growth due to all the steam leaks in the pipes last winter. We are hoping they do not find anything, but we want to make sure; and if they do find something that is potentially dangerous to the air quality, we will do whatever it takes to get it cleaned up to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Have a groovy weekend.
Tim
