Welcome back, PK-6 students!! We have ONE MORE SLEEP until we get to see you in our hallways again!! We are ready and excited!!

BOLD will be open tomorrow, and we will be serving lunch, so it will be a full day.

Due to our inability to serve a safe lunch today, we will be sending students home before lunch. Students will be dismissed from school at 11:55 am today, and buses will be picking students up.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will do everything in our power to make sure this does not happen again.

It pains me to inform students, parents, and staff that we will need to send our students home at 11:55 am today due to our inability to provide school lunch.

The health inspector paid us a visit yesterday, and he found a number of issues that still need to be addressed in the portable kitchen. Some of them were addressed yesterday, but not everything could be fixed in time for us to prepare lunch today.

We were led to believe that we would have a fully functional kitchen by yesterday, but that is simply not the reality.

There is no time for a plan B, so we have no choice but to send our students home before lunch.

Thank you Margaret and crew, for doing everything you could with the hand we've been dealt.

PreK conferences will still be happening today.

I apologize for this no doubt very sudden and extreme inconvenience. We will continue to work hard today on making sure our kitchen is good to go tomorrow.

🚨 THE NIGHT BEFORE SCHOOL! 🚨

Warriors, the halls are ready, the staff is ready, and we are READY to see your faces tomorrow! ❤️🖤

The parking lot will be open for students to park, and staff will be out and about to answer questions, help with those “Ummm…where am I supposed to go?” moments, and make sure everyone gets where they need to be.

And while our 7–12 students are getting back into the swing of things, our K–6 teachers are gearing up for two days of conferences and are excited to meet their students and families before their Wednesday start!

So grab your backpack, set that alarm (maybe set TWO 😉), and get ready…

The new teachers spent some time in the building at the end of July! They met with the district office, technology department, and their mentors! Our orientation ended with "The Amazing Race" Construction Edition! Help us welcome them to the BOLD community!!

Do you ever wonder what goes on at the school when there are no students?? The staff has been extremely busy preparing for students!!

Greetings BOLD Community,

Although there was still a lot of construction work and clean up happening during the Open House yesterday, we are ready for classes to start on Monday morning. It has taken herculean efforts by everyone involved to get this ship ready to sail, but we are ready.

Despite the daunting challenges of the weeks leading up to September 14th, I feel inspired going into this school year. The interactions I have been having with staff have been student centered, and the passion that staff have for our students comes out in the conversations I have with them.

I know there have been concerns about our kitchen and cafeteria situation. We have been very concerned as well. Although our solution to not having a finished kitchen and cafeteria is far from ideal, we have the best solution that we were able to put together.

There is a portable kitchen trailer on the North end of the building, right next to the wrestling room. The city of Olivia got it hooked up to the electrical power it needs right away, but a few other issues came up that we have been addressing over the past week. The trailer was delivered with utility issues that rendered it non-functional, but those issues are being fixed and will be finished up today.

The cooks have been working hard all week cleaning and setting up the wrestling room to get it ready to be our makeshift cafeteria. It looks great! It even has AC, as Nexus put in an industrial, portable AC unit in there for us. It feels very clean and cool in there right now.

There have been some valid concerns about the wrestling season coming up. We have been assured that the new cafeteria, at least, will be ready to move into by November 1, so the wrestlers will have that space back in time for wrestling season.

If you came to Open House yesterday, you may have been alarmed by all the work still being done in the North end of the building. As we demonstrated at this time last year, a lot can be done in a short amount of time with a dedicated staff willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. This is exactly what is happening and will continue to happen throughout the weekend.

I know that may be hard for the Open House crowd to believe, but if you are struggling with it, please come by on Monday and see for yourself! We can't wait to have our students back. We are ready. We are the Red Kingdom!

We highly encourage students to stop in, find their lockers, take a look around the building, and get familiar with where everything is before the first day. It’s a great chance to walk the halls, find classrooms, check out your new surroundings, and take away some of those first-day jitters!

We are hiring:

Greetings BOLD Community,

We have a kitchen plan.

This plan has been in the works for several weeks now, but I can now say that it is a solid plan.

We are getting a portable kitchen that will be parked on the North end of the building.

Food will be served in the Wrestling Room, which will be our makeshift cafeteria.

Our venerable and enduring cooks will be the ones navigating this new and temporary fix, so please thank a cook if you see one around.

Nexus will be paying for the portable kitchen.

Nexus is also paying for and installing new carpet in the media center, as the old carpet was in pretty bad shape due to repeated flooding and roof leaks.

Locker rooms will be finished Tuesday or Wednesday next week, so the football players may need to continue their clandestine parking lot changing for a couple more days.

The new District Office will be ready to move into next week. No more trailer, no more room 122 (fly sauna). We will be nestled deep within the bowels of the building.

The new SPED rooms will be finished up soon as well.

Science rooms are coming along and are near completion.

Walking into the building, it may not look like we will be ready for school to start; however, there has been a palpable shift in the demeanor of the workers. Their formerly dogged expressions have turned to occasion smiles and even laughter. I have actually heard whistling and singing every day this week. That means people are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, at least inside the existing building.

In Bird Island the footings and foundations for the East side vestibule will be going in at the end of the month.

On another note, if you see students and staff walking around with red t-shirts that say Red Kingdom, and you find yourself confused and seeking answers, come to a BOLD sporting event and all shall be revealed.

We are SO excited to have our students back on campus and to kick off another fall sports season! Our Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country teams showed up ready to work, compete, and make this season one to remember. 💪🔥

The energy is back, the teams are ready, and we couldn’t be more excited to cheer them on!

📵 Why are more schools moving toward “No Sight, No Sound” cell phone policies?

More schools are moving toward bell-to-bell or “No Sight, No Sound” cellphone expectations, and there’s a reason. One of the largest studies on school cellphone bans found that these policies dramatically reduced student phone use during the school day—from 61% of students reporting personal phone use in class to just 13%.

But the study also showed something important: change takes time.

Schools saw an increase in discipline issues when the policies were first introduced. However, those increases faded as students adjusted to the expectations. Student well-being also initially dipped before improving and eventually rising above where it started.

That’s important for us to recognize. We should expect a transition period. There may be some bumps along the way as students learn a new routine, and we will need to be consistent and patient through that process.

The study also found that cellphone bans did not immediately produce major academic gains, improvements in attendance, or changes in reported classroom attention. That doesn't mean the policy isn't worthwhile—it means we shouldn't expect one change to solve every challenge in education overnight.

What we can see is that when phones are put away, the distraction is reduced. That gives students and teachers an opportunity to build a school environment with more focus, more face-to-face interaction, and more time to be present.

Our goal is long-term improvement, not a quick fix. We know the beginning may require extra patience and consistency, but we believe creating healthier habits around technology is worth the effort.
